I was saddened to hear of Clete's passing. He was welcoming and friendly whenever I went to visit he and mom in Fort Branch. I enjoyed hearing the stories of his time as a fighter pilot and I always knew how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He was a good and honorable man who made a difference in this world. That is really ALL we can ask of our life  here on Earth. My condolences to Barb, Judy, Jim and the rest of your family. May God Bless.

My brother Keith eloquently said many of the things I too feel about Uncle Clete's life.  He will be missed by me and my family.

Even though we live far away from southern Indiana (currently in Capitola, CA), whenever we were there we always made sure we saw him.  He was my "favorite uncle" and certainly showed me how to grow old gracefully.

One thing he did that "lives on" in my family is the document (Descendants of Johann Herman Oing and Maria Adelheid Schucker) that he helped research and produce in 2003.  It traces the ancestral history of the Oing family going back to 1811 in Germany.  I have recently updated my segment to include all of our children and grand children.

Obviously, I will never forget him and he will "live forever" in my history.

Dear Barb, Judy, and Jim,

Please accept my sincere condolences about the passing of your Dad.  Rebecca and I are sorry that we will not be able to attend the funeral service.

I have many fond memories of my Uncle Clete.  He was a wonderful brother and friend of my Dad (Edwin).  Even though they were eight years apart in age, I always felt that they had a close bond between them.  He certainly helped to keep my Dad in a positive frame of mind as Dad aged, visiting him often until Dad passed away in 2010 at age 95.

My relationship with my Uncle Clete was one of the strongest I had in the Oing clan throughout my life.  He was a warm, friendly, funny, soul who I could talk to about many, many things.  I always cherished my visits with him whenever I visited with Dad in Evansville in the 1995 to 2010 time frame.

Uncle Clete was always interested in what was going on in my life and that of my family.  He loved hearing about my world travels and work with Chicago Bridge & Iron.  We talked politics, discussed world events, and lots more.  I loved his stories about Purdue, starting Oing Electric with Uncle Mel, and his pilot activities with the US Navy.  He was, in many ways, a hero to me.  I often wished I was strong enough and confident enough to be an entrepreneur like he was, but I guess I took after my Dad in the fashion of not being a risk taker.

He always amazed me as to how many people he knew and how all those folks loved him.  He was a very, very, special person.  Rebecca, and my girls, Lauren and Michelle, loved him too.  Both Lauren and Michelle dropped me a note just yesterday, expressing their sadness at his death and both called him a “fun person”.
