Rodney Broshears Sr Obituary

Rodney Van Broshears Sr. (Van, Gopher, RV) passed away March 8, 2018 at his residence. Rodney was born September 19, 1948 to Donald and Edna Ruth (Duncan) Broshears at Princeton, Indiana. Married Jo Ann Roos on May 21, 1977. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters; Holly Ann Ryan (Jonathon) of Haubstadt, Kassi Leigh of Haubstadt, and son: Rodney Van Broshears Jr of Evansville; granddaughter Presley Jean Ryan. Four brothers; Donald Dayton (Jeri Ann), Gene (Mary Ester (Mel)), Charles and Michael (Nancy); several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Special Cousin like a brother – Jim Davis (Calvin). And many friends. Rodney attended Marlette grade school and graduated from Fort Branch High School in 1967. He worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad nearly 30 years until getting injured on the job. He served as Vice-president of the United Transportation Union for many years and also on the safety committee for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Van served as past President and active member of the VFW Men’s Auxiliary, member of the Haubstadt Chamber of Commerce (Haubstadt Sommerfest), member of St. James Church where he enjoyed frying chicken at the summer social and member of the UTU Alumni and Fort Branch High School Alumni. Van was also one of the founding members of the Titan Youth Football League and always a supporter of Gibson Southern High School. Van enjoyed NASCAR and showing his 1955 Chevy ‘Ms. Scarlett’. He enjoyed raising German Shepherd puppies for years, and always had German shepherd dogs as pets. Van was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. Van definitely never met a stranger. Services will be on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at St James Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Betz as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday March 11, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and again from 9:00 AM till time of service at 10:00 AM at the church. There will be a VFW Auxiliary program at 1:30 PM at the Funeral Home on Sunday. Donations may be made to the Gibson Southern Titan Youth Football League and VFW Post #2714.
