Bruce Michael Deer, 67, of Indianapolis, IN formerly of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Life's Journey Hospice in Avon. Bruce was born on April 9, 1956 to Martha and the late Donald Deer. He was a 1974 graduate of Haubstadt High School and attended the University of Southern Indiana. Bruce worked at Mead Johnson and Bristol Myers Squibb in Evansville for 33 years. He was the co-owner of KD's Flowers & Gifts in Fort Branch, IN. Bruce moved to Indianapolis in 2009 and later retired from Amerisource Bergen. Bruce was a strong Catholic, a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Indianapolis and the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation. Bruce genuinely cared about others and was inquisitive, loving and supportive of everyone he encountered throughout life. His optimism continued throughout his journey with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Kathy (Hipp) Deer and two children, Natalie (Caleb) Sutton of Indianapolis and Wesley Deer (Katie Lane) of New Palestine, as well as two grandchildren he adored, Henry and Emmett Sutton. Also surviving are Bruce's mother, Martha Deer, and brothers and sister: Danny (Martha) Deer, Rick (Stacy) Deer, Julie (Scott) Stodghill, Brad (Kristin) Deer, and Brian (Melissa) Deer, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bruce is preceded in death by his father Donald Deer, father-in-law and mother-in-law Scotty and Rita Hipp, nephew Derek Deer, and niece Kelsey Hipp. A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN with Father Tony Ernst, Father Alex Zenthoefer, Father Branson Hipp (nephew) and Father Andrew Thomas officiating, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN, and on Monday, December 4, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the team at Life's Journey Hospice and Dr. Nasser Hanna and the team at Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center for the compassionate care provided to Bruce since his cancer diagnosis in March.
