Carl "Richie" Schmits, 76, of Fort Branch, IN passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He was born to the late Victor and Helen (Smith) Schmits in Fort Branch, IN on March 31, 1940.
Richie was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN. He was an Army veteran and retired from Whirlpool in 2001. He enjoyed working on old cars, watching shows about old cars, attending car shows, and loved to fish.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Jerry Schmits.
Richie is survived by his loving wife Phyllis (Sampson) Schmits of Fort Branch, IN, Godsons Jonathan Wood of Evansville, IN and Shayne May of Princeton, IN, Brothers Bill (Annette) Schmits of Sebring, FL and John Schmits of Elberfeld, IN, a Sister-in-law Elaine Schmits of Evansville, IN and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Fathers Tony Ernst and Biju Thomas as co-celebrants. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Rosary services will be on at 9:30 AM Saturday December 10, 2016 at Stodghill Funeral Home. Military Honors will be performed at the graveside by VFW post #2714 and American Legion Post #194. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or Holy Cross Catholic Church.
