Obituary

Clarence G. Schaefer, 91, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.  He was born on March 17, 1927 in Evanston, IN to the late Edward and Frances (Waninger) Schaefer.

Clarence was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN.  He retired from the Emge Meat Packing Co. in Fort Branch, IN after more than 30 years of service.  Clarence also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Clarence married Ileilabelle Kast on September 14, 1957 in Tell City, IN.  They were married for 61 years. Clarence belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid gardener and put out a garden for over 60 years.

Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by 3 siblings, Raymond Schaefer, Helen Harpenau, Cletus Schaefer.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Belle (Kast) Schaefer of Fort Branch, IN; 6 children, Larry Schaefer of Fort Branch, IN, Laura (Brian) Hatfield of Evansville, IN, Luann (Bill) Sievern of Evansville, IN, Lisbeth Miller of West Chester, OH, Lynette (Bill)  Becker of Clarksville, TN, and Lyle Schaefer of Fishers, IN; 2 sisters, Mildred (Martin) Lindauer of Fort Branch, IN, and Dorothy (Wilfred) Lindauer of St. Henry, IN; and 11 grandchildren, Bennett (Alaina), Harrison, and Madison Hatfield, Will, Alec, and Claire Sievern, Anne, Sophie, and Caroline Miller, and Jackson, and Thomas Becker.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN, with Fathers Tony Ernst and Ambrose Wanyoni co-celebrants.  Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery where a Military Honors service will be conducted by the VFW post # 2714 and American Legion Post #194.  Visitation will be on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located in Fort Branch, IN, and again from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church on Friday.  A Rosary will be recited at 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home on Thursday.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Holy Cross Church.
