Dallas C. Flener, age 88, of Evansville, IN, passed away on April 14, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. He was born on July 21, 1937, in Evansville to Riley Flener and Fausteen (Lee) Sunderland.

Dallas graduated from Elberfeld High School in 1955 and joined the Marine Corps Reserves. On May 5, 1962, he married Marjilee Schaefer, and together they raised three children. Dallas spent 30 years working as a supervisor at Alcoa before retiring in 1991. He and Marjilee devoted their retirement to volunteering with the Red Cross, assisting during numerous disasters across the country, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Their dedication led them to meet George W. Bush in San Antonio during a press interview—an unforgettable experience. More recently, they volunteered at the Wartime Museum in Evansville, where Dallas managed flight simulators for visiting school children.

Dallas is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Marjilee Flener; his children, Lynne (Steve) Wilson of Georgetown, IN, Michael (Audrey) Flener of Plymouth, MI, and Chris (Diana) Flener of Berea, KY; his brother, Steve Sunderland of Bullitt County, KY; grandchildren Maura Shalosky, Nicholas (Megan) Marshall, Harry Jackson, and Veronica Jackson; great-grandchildren Kylie, Nolan, and J.D.; as well as a lifelong co-worker and friend, Daryl Talbot.

Private graveside services will take place at St. James Cemetery, with a celebration of life planned for a later time. Donations in Dallas’s honor may be made to the Wartime Museum in Evansville, https://www.evansvillewartimemuseum.org/donate. Expressions of sympathy can be shared at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
