Doris Jane Higginbotham

Doris Jane Higginbotham, age 73, of Owensville, Indiana, passed away on February 22, 2026, at North River Health Campus in Evansville. She was born on December 8, 1952, in Princeton, Indiana, to John “JD” Russell and Thelma “Bertie” (Smith) Crow.

Doris dedicated over 25 years as a cook for Transcendent Health Care in Owensville. She married David Higginbotham on March 18, 1969, and together they raised two children. Doris cherished time spent with her family and was known for her warm and welcoming nature. While she loved all sports, she was especially passionate about St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Music brought her great joy, particularly the songs of Elvis Presley.

She is preceded in death by her father, John “JD” Russell; mother, Thelma “Bernie” Crow; and stepfather, Harry “Joe” Crow.

Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, David Higginbotham of Owensville; her children, Angela (Chris) Hawker of Evansville and Shane Higginbotham of Owensville; brother, Terry (Kerry) Smith of Owensville; grandchildren Kelsea Kifer, Coltin (Elaina) Higginbotham, Kent Hawker, and Carlie Hawker; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, officiated by Pastor Linda Joyner. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins, with burial to follow at Mauck Cemetery in Owensville. The family would like to encourage anyone attending Doris’s services to feel free to wear your St. Louis Cardinal attire in her honor.
