Doris June (Kuhlenschmidt) Welte, aged 98, passed away on December 12, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. Born on June 15, 1927, in Elberfeld, IN, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Emelia (Gerichs) Kuhlenschmidt. Doris attended Millersburg High School and later graduated from Lockyears Business College. She worked in various offices at the Warrick County Court House until marrying Clarence “Tiny” Welte on April 9, 1947—a marriage that lasted 64 years until his death in 2012. For over 35 years, Doris was a dedicated member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, where she also belonged to the Daughters of Isabella and the Labor of Love quilting group.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Tiny” Welte; her infant son, Joseph Welte; her daughter, Teresa Pijut; sisters Wilma Baker and Mildred Schultheis, and her brother, Wilfred Kuhlenschmidt.
She is survived by her children: Tom (Rosie) Welte, Mike (Darlene) Welte, David (Ann) Welte, all of Evansville, Ron (Deana) Welte of Elberfeld , Jane (Bryan) Meyer of Haubstadt, and son-in-law David Pijut of Newburgh. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kim) Welte, Matthew (Rachel) Welte, Mark (Katie) Welte, Julie (Matt) Patterson, Bryan (Michelle) Welte, Stephanie (Kyle Porter) Wargel, Jonathan (Alyssa) Welte, Kyle (Sonja) Pijut, Lauren Pijut, Travis (Krista) Meyer, Alex (Maci) Meyer; one step-grandchild, Robin (Tim) Antey; nineteen great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren ; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, officiated by Father Andrew Thomas. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home. A public recitation of the rosary and a prayer service will be led by the Daughters of Isabella will begin at 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Additional visitation will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. before the Mass on Thursday at the church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
