IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Thomas
"Todd" Frank
February 14, 1935 – March 1, 2024
Edward "Todd" Thomas Frank, Jr. was born February 14, 1935, in Ponca City, OK to Edward Frank, Sr and Violet Ann Benson and brought home to his brother Don, who was 4 years older and not sure he was in need of a younger brother, but he got one anyway. When Todd was 3, the family moved to Lake Village, AR, where he worked on the farm with his dad and raised hell around town with his best friend Mel Bottoroff. Todd faced many struggles in school because he was dyslexic, but his quick mind and excellent listening skills helped him excel despite the challenges he faced. In fact, he did so well that he went on to Arkansas A&M and then on to medical school at the University of Tennessee. After an internship at St. Joseph's Hospital, he went into General Practice in Guyman, OK for the next five years. However, after five years he grew restless and decided to do residency at Vanderbilt in Psychiatry. Todd took to Psychiatry like a duck to water and after his residency ended, he moved to New Orleans where he felt surely there would be no shortage of potential patients. In New Orleans he found his two great loves - Sylvia Jane Benson - and treating patients who were chemically dependent, and he would make a life of both. He found great success in his career, opening several units and practices across the Greater New Orleans area. While his work brought him accolades and success he found his greatest joy in his family, he and Sylvia married and had two daughters, Julia and Elizabeth, and a string of Giant Schnauzers. In 1992, Todd moved the family to Mobile, AL to continue following his great love in Psychiatry and after a year decided while there was much to love about Mobile, he derived great joy in waking up on the water so moved the family again to Gulf Breeze, FL, which he would call home for the next 30 years. His career in psychiatry and his time in Mobile brought him great satisfaction. After many years in practice, he attempted retirement several times, but didn't find it to his liking, until the day, he and Sylvia hopped on the Queen Mary and spent at least half the year for the next several years traveling the world. During these travel years he also saw his family expand to include not one but two sets of precious twin granddaughters whom he delighted in gifting with exceptionally noisy toys that had to be taken home promptly after being received. During the quiet years without travel, Todd explored his roots, continued his studies, and cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He was able to stay home by the water and by his beloved Sylvia where he passed on Friday, March 1, 2024. Todd's legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, a life beautifully lived, filled with love, laughter, and a passion for both healing and exploration. Todd is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Sylvia; daughters, Julia (Jeremy) Miller and Elizabeth Cichostepski; granddaughters, Caitlyn Cichostepski, Claire Cichostepski, Lyanna Miller, and Evangeline Miller; as well as a host of nieces and nephews of the Frank, Smith, and Cason varieties. He will be missed by countless others who called him a friend and a mentor. Visitation will be held 1:00pm until a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 2:00pm Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
A commital for he and his wife will be held at Benson Cemetery in Owensville on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. with Kristy Pflug officiating.
