Esther L. Sermersheim, age 99, of Riverview, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9th , 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Previously she resided in Princeton, Indiana.
Esther was born on December 26th, 1925, in Paris, Illinois to Forest H. Elam and Esta E. Elam. She grew up in Paris, Illinois, a small railroad and farming community known as Buck Township. She attended a small one room elementary school and then went on to Paris High School. She held many roles throughout her life, finishing her career at Old National Bank as a trust officer.
She married Gerald E. Sermersheim on August 5th, 1958 and together they shared 35 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and many memorable family gatherings. Esther and Gerald raised their family in Princeton, Indiana. Esther adored the time she spent with her family, friends, her Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star organization. Throughout her life, Esther enjoyed traveling, gardening, volunteering, camping, attending Church, and spending time with family. Her family and friends will remember her for her unwavering faith and willingness to help others in need.
She is survived by her sister Mary Louise McCabe, children Kenton E. Sermersheim, Sue Ellen Sermersheim, Gary Lee Sermersheim, and Gwyn Ann Padgett, grandchildren Alison Nelson, Jon Sermershiem, Sean Padgett and Sara Strong, and her great-grandchildren Harper Nelson, Jack Strong &; Eleanor Strong. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald E. Sermersheim, parents Esta and Forest Elam, siblings Nita Blauser, Dorothy Harbough and Earl Elam, daughter-in-law, Patricia Sermersheim and granddaughter Laura Lee Sermersheim.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 20th 2025 at Stodghill Funeral Home, located at 500 East Park Street, Fort Branch, IN 47648. Visitation will be held from 11:00am – 1:00 pm. Funeral will begin at 1:00pm followed by the Burial next door at the Holy Cross cemetery .
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers, nurses and friends who helped care for Esther. Their compassion, support, and love for her was unmatched and her family is beyond grateful to you all.
Esther's love, wisdom, and grace will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
