IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugene Joseph
Hirsch
April 17, 1937 – June 21, 2025
Eugene Joseph Hirsch, 88, of Cynthiana, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on June 21, 2025. Gene was born in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1955.
A lifelong farmer, Gene poured his heart into Hirsch Farm, where he grew corn, wheat, and soybeans, and raised hogs. He spent decades nurturing not only the fields but a legacy — one that continues through the family's multi-generation farm, of which he was undeniably proud. His success was made possible by the support of his beloved wife, Clara Mae Hirsch. They shared an incredible 66 years of marriage — a partnership built on love, resilience, and a shared commitment to faith, family, and hard work. Together, they raised five children: Terrie, Gary, Judy, Julie, and Tim. Gene was especially proud that Tim and Gary followed in his footsteps, keeping the farm running and thriving.
Gene's Catholic faith was central to his life. He was an active member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, where he offered his time, prayers, and support over the years. His faith guided him throughout his life and shaped the way he treated others, living each day with gratitude and compassion.
He believed that seeing his children grow into good, capable people — and watching the farm pass into the hands of the next generation — were the greatest rewards of his life. Known for his dry humor and quick wit, Gene had a way of saying more with a one-liner than most could in a whole conversation. His quiet strength and deep love for his family left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Mae (Wagner) Hirsch; daughter, Terrie (Bob) Weaver; son, Gary (Lisa) Hirsch; daughter, Judy (Glen) Susott; daughter, Julie (Lonnie) Menke; and son, Tim Hirsch (Melissa Smith); grandchildren, Crystal Weaver, Lyndsey (Jake) Tindle, Michael Hirsch, Candice Burns, Shelly (Steve) Fleenor, Jason Susott, Kristen (Josh) Fern, Hailey (Andrew) Hagen, Tori Hirsch, Lily Hirsch, and Mattia Ruminer; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Glenna Polz; his loyal companion of the past seven years — his dog, Lily; and many beloved relatives.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Matilda Hirsch, and siblings Vince, Virginia, Valera, Vivian, Charles, Joe, Ralph, Bob, Bill, and Marilyn.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their incredible care and compassion.
