Obituary

Frederick Leo Bender, 86, of Ft. Branch, Ind., died Saturday, June 12, 2010 Mr. Bender was born on March 10, 1924, to Henry Valentine and Cecelia (Angermeier) Bender of Poseyville, Ind. He and his wife, Barabara Jean Bender, recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Fred was a Vice President and manager of Farms at Emge Packing Co., Inc. in Ft. Branch for 40 years and was active in farming until a few months ago. He was a member of the Holy cross Catholic Church in Ft. Branch, where he and his wife, Barbara, were recipients of the Bishop Brute Award. He was also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Barabara Jean (Emge) Bender; five children, John F. Bender (Diane), of Evansville, Ind., Janet B. Oldham (David), of Princeton, Ind., Maryann B. Hubbard (Robert) Of Evansville, Ind., Teresa B. Powell (David), of Worthington, Ind., and Robert M. Bender (Tracey), of Ft. Branch, Ind.; ten grandchildren, Rachel B. Oldham, Jennifer A. Wilson (Lonnie), Justin D. Oldham (Lindsay), Dr. Andrew D. Powell (Nadine), Brian R. Hubbard, Michael J. Powell, Brittany E. Bender, Jessica N. Bender, Thomas J. Bender, and Katherine D. Bender; one great grandchild, Tyler B. Wilson; and five siblings, Mary Davis, Virginia Beuligmann, Carolyn Blankenberger, Harold Bender, and James Bender. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Benjamin Bender, Ivan Bender, and Joseph Bender. Visitation will be at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on hwy. 168 West in Ft. Branch, Ind., on Monday, June 14th, from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 15th, at 10 A.M., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ft. Branch, with the Rev. Anthony Ernst officiating. The body will also lie in state at the church from 9 A.M. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Ft. Branch. contributions in memory of Fred Bender may be made to the Catholic Foundation of Southwestern Indiana, Inc. (4200 N. Kentucky Ave., P.O. Box 4169, Evansville, Ind. 47724, or a favorite charity.
