Gerald O. (Curly) Meny, 83, of Evansville, IN, formally of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on Wed. July 20, 2011 at Deaconess Hospice Center in Evansville, IN. He was born to the late Victor and Lorine (Schultheis) Meny on Apr. 7, 1928 in Haubstadt, IN. He was Co-owner of Meny's Store in Haubstadt with his brothers Kenneth and Eugene and sisters, Mary and Wilma. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Evansville and was formally a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, before he moved to Evansville. Curly was a 1946 graduate of Haubstadt High school, in 1950, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Jan. of 1952. He was a member and past commander of the Haubstadt American Legion Post # 194, the Fort Branch VFW Post # 2714, he was a member and Past President of the Princeton D.A.V. where he also drove the van to transport veterans to the Veterans Hospitals, he was a member of the Haubstadt Knights of Columbus, past president of the Haubstadt town board , where he had served for 16 years, past president of the Ind, and Ky. Hardware Association, was a former member of the Haubstadt Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a past Chairman of the Gibson County Democratic Central Committee. Curly is preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild Sgt Ronald Zeller, a Great Grandchild Elizabeth Barnett and a sister Mary Magedline Meny. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann (Buehner) Meny of Evansville, IN, 9 children; Michael (Barb) Meny of Evansville, IN, Cindy (Loren) Zeller of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey (Tammy) Meny of Fort Branch, IN, Anita (Jim) Schmitt of Evansville, IN, Daniel (Karen) Meny of Evansville, IN, Eric (Johnna Meny of Haubstadt, IN, Wayne (Margie) Meny of Haubstadt, IN, Laura (Mike) Richter of Haubstadt, IN, and Bobbie Meny of Elberfeld, IN, 10 brothers and sisters; Dorothy Hamerin of Mt. St. Helens, OR, Wilma Riedford of Haubastadt, IN, Elvira Niedig of Fort Branch, IN, Anna Lee Lannert of Evansville, IN, Imelda Balbach of Darmstadt, IN, Bernice Price of Cynthiana, IN, Jo Ann Lamey of Haubstadt, IN, Kenneth (Bud) Meny of Haubstadt, IN, Charles Meny of Evansville, IN, and Gene Meny of Haubstadt, IN. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10:00 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Evansville, IN, with Father Steve Lintzenich the celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum in Evansville, IN, where military services will be conducted by the Haubstadt American Legion Post #194 and the Fort Branch VFW Post #2714. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN and again from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church on Monday. The family request that any donations be made to Deaconess Hospice.
