Joe Lawrence Newton

Joe Lawrence Newton, 88, of Owensville, Indiana, passed away at his home on January 31, 2026. Born on December 8, 1937, in Owensville, he was the son of the late Ivan and Maereta (Simpson) Newton.

A 1956 graduate of Owensville High School, Joe married Carol Jean Austin on July 2, 1966, and they raised two children together. Farming was Joe’s lifelong passion.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Carol Jean Newton, who passed away on May 24, 2005; his son, Joe Paul Newton; siblings Phyllis Murray, Danny Newton, and Carmen Newton; as well as nephew Mike Newton.

He is survived by his daughter Jill Thill and her husband Paul of Midland, Michigan; four grandchildren—Lauren, Monica, Gwen, and Joe Thill; nephews Steve Murray, Brent Murray, Bart Newton, and Terry Young; and niece Patty Wildt.

Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, with Pastor Bart Newton officiating. Family and friends may come from 9:00 AM to service time. Interment will follow at Clark Cemetery in Owensville.
