Larry Joe Carter, 69, of Fort Branch, passed away on April 19, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born on October 18, 1956, in Hammond, IN, and was raised by Jerry and Helen (Rogers) Kelley.
Larry graduated from Gibson Southern High School in 1975, where he was a member of the school’s very first basketball team. He worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years and was most recently employed by O’Neal Steel. , On March 17, 1981, he married Lisa Lenhart, and they shared 45 years together before her passing in January of this year.
Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing golf, watching basketball, NASCAR, Dallas Cowboys football, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, riding his Harley, and enjoying a cold one with friends. He especially cherished moments with his grandchildren, taking golf cart rides into town, and feeding the squirrels in his backyard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Helen Kelley; and his brother, Keith Kelley.
Larry is survived by his children, Jamie (Scott) Whitfield of Fort Branch and Jacob (Quyen Phan-Carter) Carter of Newburgh; his siblings, Charlie (Rebecca) Carter of Hoodsport, Kim (John) Barrett of Fort Branch, Karen (Broc) Garrett of Fort Branch, Sue (Jerry) Ohl of Puyallup, Joanne (Vince) Foresterie of La Porte, and Donna (Curt) Brust of Valparaiso; and his grandchildren, Gunnar Dockery, Zayne Whitfield, Blaze Whitfield, Axel Whitfield, Marshall Carter, and Zoey Carter.
At the family’s request, no services will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
