Obituary

Lawrence I. Dix, 87, of Fort Branch, IN, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 at his residence. Lawrence was born on April 13th, 1919, in McFadden Arkansas, to the late Henry and Pheba (Coffee) Dix. He was a member of the Fort Branch General Baptist Church, where he loved to sing with the Church Choir. Lawrence was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater, where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He retired in 1984 from Whirlpool Corp. and owned the Amoco Staion in Princeton, with his eldsest son, he did a lot of shrub work and took special pride in his garden and yard. He loved sports, fishing, and family. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers. He was the youngest of 9 children. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 64 and half years, Lucille (Henderson) Dix, and 7 children and their spouses. Herb and Mo Dix of Fort Branch, IN, Jim and Kathy Dix of Darmstadt, IN, Ellen Kirkman of Newburgh, IN, Helen Biggs of Newburgh, IN, Mike and Kena Dix of Fort Branch, IN, Pat and Jim Pohl of Fort Branch, IN, and Greg and Terri Dix of Stockbridge, GA. Also surving is a brother, Ira Dix of Bald Knob Arkansas, 16 Grandchildren, and 13 Great Grandchildren. Services for Lawrence will be on Saturday, August 5th, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Fort Branch, General Baptist Church, Reverend Steve Akins and Reverend Tammy Scheller will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN. Visitation will be on Friday, August 4th, 2006 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 in Fort Branch, IN. A military service will be conducted by the Fort Branch VFW Post 2714 on Saturday at the Cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Fort Branch General Baptist Church or to the VNA Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
