Leo John Spindler, 93, of Owensville passed away on August 15, 2026, at his home. Leo was born on September 15, 1932, in Haubstadt to the late Frank and Rosa (Pohl) Spindler.
After returning from the service, Leo met the love of his life, Rosalie Mohr, in 1957. They married on November 21, 1959, and shared 52 wonderful years until her passing in 2011. Together, they built a life on their farm, raising pigs, growing crops, and caring for many animals. Leo was proud of the family they created and treasured time with his 9 children, 22 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. A hardworking provider, he devoted his life to caring for those he loved. His greatest joy was his family, and his love will live on for generations. Leo and Rosalie also enjoyed traveling with friends and cherished those memories. He was a member of the Knights of St. John and VFW Post 2714. Leo also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, as well as reading and playing cards.
Leo is survived by his 9 children, Randy (Tamara) Spindler of Haubstadt, Jeff Spindler of Haubstadt, Eric (Gayle) Spindler of Haubstadt, Terry (Robyn) Spindler of Haubstadt, Lisa (John) Kern of Owensville, Elaine (Bernie) Goebel of Poseyville, Mark (Vicki) Spindler of Owensville, Stan Spindler of Haubstadt, and Jason Spindler of Haubstadt; grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda, Jordyn, Brianna, Kaitlyn, Logan, Ryan, Olivia, Delaney, Zachary, Cameron, Mitchell, Emma, Johnathon, Jacob, Ethan, Alex, Claire, Molly, Collin, Lilly, and Adam; great grandchildren, Mason, Eli, Jackson, Remi, Raegan, Payton, Rose, Landon, Gracie, Colton, Audrey, Reid, Callie, Dominic, Myleigh, Philip, Samuel, Lucy, Kenzie, Lexie, Lucas, Sebastian, Levi, Carly, and Benjamin.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Rosalie Spindler; siblings, Ferdinand, Leonard, Edward, Raymond, Frank, Albert, Sister Rosella, and Loretta Schmitt; infant sister, Pauline; an infant son, Kevin Spindler; daughters-in-law, Barbara and Lynn Spindler; great-grandchildren, Mathew and Bennett.
A special thanks to Father Andrew and Father Philip and those who took Holy Communion to Leo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Andrew Thomas, Father Phillip Rogier, and Father Kenneth Betz as celebrants. There will be no visitation at the church on Thursday, however there will be a rosary starting at 9:30 a.m. until mass time. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Sts. Peter and Paul Family Life Center from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary beginning at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
