Leslie "Les" E. Wirth, 85, of Princeton went home to be with his Lord on December 2, 2024. He passed away at his daughter's home surrounded by his loved ones. Les was born on July 27, 1939 to Jacob and Josephine (Tarr) Wirth in Patoka, IN.
Les graduated from Patoka High School in 1957. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for 2 years. He worked several different jobs after the army including oil fields, Whirlpool, mechanic, and farmer. His most rewarding job was becoming a police officer. He worked for the Gibson County Sheriff's Department for 26 years retiring in 1996. He continued to work several jobs after retirement. Les was a Lions Club member for 37 years, member of the American Legion post 25, enjoyed woodworking, being "Mr. Fix-it" for family and friends. He was also a founding member of the Owensville Homecoming aka the Watermelon Festival where he cooked and served roasted corn on the cob, organized an Ole Friends Reunion for friends he went to school with and people he grew up with, along with much more. He loved to tell stories about his years growing up, tell jokes, laugh, and enjoy life. He was a member of Enon General Baptist Church in Princeton.
Les is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Wirth and Josephine Maidlow; daughter, Jody Lynn Wirth; brothers, Lester, Ben, Paul, and Raymond Wirth; sisters, Jean Owen, Aileen Doty, and Evelyn York; great grandson, Zachary Evans; and a very special loved one.
Les is survived by his daughters. Dawn (Donnie) Wirth Schmitt and Julie Wirth Evans (Terry Smith) both of Owensville; wife, Donna Wirth of Princeton; step-sons, Mark (Vonda) Deal and Joe (Tanya) Deal; grandchildren, Matthew Stone, Joshua Ross, Ashlee Ross (Alex), Jace Schmitt, Jacob (Brandy) Evans, Kilee Evans, Darrin (Abigail) Deal, Miranda (Jordan) Mason, and Jessica (Ken) Lawson; great grandchildren, Kaiden Becker, Khloe VanNote, Jasilynn, River, and Lawson Evans, Creighton "Little Les" Goldman, Maisie Deal, Maebry and Ezekiel Mason, and Dominiq and Knox Lawson; sister, Sandra Hawk; brother, Howard (Deb) Maidlow, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch with Pastor Tammy Scheller officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, December 6, 2024. Military Honors and Service Honors will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County and the Gibson County Sheriff's Department at the funeral home prior to the procession leading to the burial at Owensville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riley Children's Hospital and Shriner Children's Hospital. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
