Marvin John Maier, 92, of Haubstadt, IN, died on October 11, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born to Gilbert and Frances (Neufelder) Maier on May 7, 1933, in Haubstadt. Marvin attended Haubstadt High School and worked as a meat packer at Emge Meat Packing in Fort Branch before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1955, he returned to Emge's as a truck driver until the company closed. He was a loving father and doting Papaw. Marvin was a member of St. James Catholic Church, American Legion post #194, Fort Branch VFW post #2714, and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Frances Maier; his wife, Joyce Ann Maier; siblings August Maier, Otilda Burns, Emil Maier, and Theresa Kohlhaas; and a grandson, David Holmes. Survivors include his children, Ritchie (Annette) Maier of Haubstadt and Jill (John) Heuer of Elberfeld; grandchildren Kyle (Melanie) Maier, Alexander Maier, Derrick (Angela) Holmes, James Heuer, and Alex (Paige) Markle; and great-grandchildren Elli, Andi, Weston, Levi, and Aurora.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Vincent Hospital for their compassionate care of Marvin in his final days. They went above and beyond, and the family is truly grateful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic church in Haubstadt with Father Kenneth Betz officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and again on Friday at St. James Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass. Recitation of the rosary and Knights of Columbus service will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. prior to visitation at the funeral home. Military Honors will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County at St. James Cemetery following mass. Donations in his honor can be made to St. James Catholic Church.
