Obituary

Marvin O. Schmitt, 74, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 at Heritage Center in Evansville, IN. He was born on Aug. 3, 1942 in Poseyville, IN to the late Joseph and Geneva (Ziliak) Schmitt.

Marvin was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, a member of the Haubstadt Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight and was a life long member, and the Haubstadt Sommerfest Inc.  He attended and graduated from Haubstadt High School.  Marvin played softball andUmpired High School Basebal, Softbal and Little League Games for 25 years.  He was retired from the Emge Meat Packing Co. and the Wilbert Vault Co..  After retiring he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports, and participate in school activities.   Marvin was a life long Indiana Hoosier and L.A. Dodger Fan.

Besides his parents Marvin is also preceded in death by a brother Paul Schmit  and 2 grandchildren, Baby K. and Hannah.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Doris (Dewig) Schmitt, 4 chidren, Rodney Schmitt of Evansville, IN, Russell (Tricia) Schmitt of Camby, IN, Rick Schmitt of Jacksonville, FL, and Nicolle (Damien) Hurt of Robards, KY. 4 brother and 2 sisters, Eddie Schmitt of Mt. Carmel, IL, Ken Schmitt of New Castle, IN, Tom Schmitt of Haubstadt, IN, Fred Schmitt of Henderson, KY, Rose Vincent of Seaford, Del., and Mary Winiger of Evansville, IN,8 grandchildren, Ericka, Haylee, Kwinten, Kamden, Kooper, Shelby, Wyatt, and Tucker, and 2 great grandchild, Marvin and Eva.

A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Habstadt, IN, Fathers Tony Ernst and Thomas Biju will be co-celebrants.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Stodghill funeral home in Fort Branch, IN and again fron 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Friday.  The family request that any donations be made to the Heritage Center in Evansville, IN.
