Obituary

Mary Catherine (Smith) Foust, 94, died August 3, 2010 a River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN. Mrs. Foust was born April 24, 1916 in Fort Branch IN to Chester and Ida (Wright) Smith. She was married to Earl D Foust of Akron, Ohio who preceded her in death in 1972. She graduated from Fort Branch High School in 1934. She held a B.S. Degree from Indiana State University and a Masters Degree from Indiana University. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She taught 10 years at Marlette School in Fort Branch, IN and 23 years at Marsh and Edgewood Schools in Michigan City IN. She was inducted into the Michigan City Area Schools Wall of Fame in 1988. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Michigan City where she was a member of Edith Boyd Circle and Prime Timers. She was past president of both Delta Kappa Gamma and Woman's Study Club. She was also a member of N.E.A., Classroom Teachers, LaPorte Co Retired Teachers, A.A.R.P., an honorary member of the Friends of the Michigan City Public Library, member at large of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and a charter member of the Woman's Study Club Chorus. After retirement, she volunteered for the Reading is Fundamental program including 5 elementary schools and she also conducted enrichment programs for second graders at Edgewood School. Mary is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martha (Joseph) Carithers of Princeton, IN and a nephew, Robert (Diana) Carithers of Evansville In, a great nephew Ryan Carithers , and a great niece, Kelli Carithers, both of Evansville IN. There will be private services for family and friends at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch at 11:00 am on Saturday August 7, 2010 with Dr James Cramer officiating . Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch. Visitation will be from 10:00 am till time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
