Mary LaVerne Scott, 100, formerly of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at Newburgh Health Care Facility on December 13, 2017. She was born to the late Robert "Hoyt" and Fannie Bell (Burns) Pugh on September 17, 1917 in Gibson County, IN.
Mary and her husband Merle were founding members of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN. After moving to Newburgh, IN, Mary attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Evansville, IN.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Merle E. Scott on March 20, 1983, her son Thomas Scott, sisters Florence Schmits and Drucie Terry, and brothers Jesse "Ed" Pugh, Raymond "Sam" Pugh, Claude Pugh, and Richard Pugh.
Mary is survived by her 5 children; Deven (Judith) Scott of New Bern, NC, Joseph (Linda) Scott of Ingram, TX, Roger (Myra) Scott of Crestwood, KY, Kathleen (Larry) Patton of Evansville, IN, and Bryan (Diane) Scott of Hendersonville, NC, 1 sister; Eva Terry of Newburgh, IN, 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN with Fathers Tony Ernst and Ambrose Wanyonyi as co-celebrants. Visitation will be on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery following mass. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
