Mary Helen Scully 83, of Newburgh (formerly from Fort Branch, IN), passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born in New York, New York on October 14, 1926, to the late, Manuel and Manuela Gonzalez, both of whom emigrated to the US from Spain. Mary was a member of the Fort Branch United Methodist Church for many years. She was a wife and mother who worked as a salesperson, assembler, and other various jobs. In earlier years Mary had enjoyed volunteering, gardening, and traveling. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bingo and watching old movies. Mary is survived by daughter, Kathlene Carter from Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Arlene Scully of Evansville; grandchildren, Jonathan Scully(Jon) of Newburgh, Jeffrey Drews of Knoxville, TN, Jason Carter of Melbourne, Florida, Justin Carter of Patchogue, New York and Mellissa Bravato of Lake Ronkonkoma, New York and two great grandchildren, Cole and Cassidy Bravato. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Manuel. Private burial will be held on Wednesday, October 6. Entombment will be held Walnut Hill Cemetery, Fort Branch, IN. There will be no visitation but a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vanderburgh Humane Society. P.O. The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation for Mary's care to the nurses, staff and doctors at Deaconess Gateway for the compassion and professionalism during Mary's short stay and for the dignity they showed her during her final hours. They would also like to thank all the staff at Atria Newburgh for the kindness and care shown during her time as a resident.
