Obituary

N. Sherrell Marginet, 76, of Fort Branch IN, passed away at Good Samaritian Nursing Home in Oakland City, IN on February 8, 2011. He was born on September 18, 1934 in Dugger IN to the late George and H.Maxine(Alman) Marginet. Sherrell he was in the South Gibson School Corporation for 39 years where he was principal of Haubstadt School, OwensvilleSchool and Gibson Southern High Schools. He coached 7th and 8th grade basketball at Fort Branch Jr. High School, 4th, 5th, 6th grade P.E. at Fort Branch, Owensville High School Basketball, Track and Cross Country Coach. He was a Drivers Training instructer and had the 1st class to go to IU and use the simulator. Sherrell taught at Owensville for 5 years where he taught Senior English and Grammer and the same for 3 years at Haubstadt. He was the Principle at Haubstadt High School and Elementary school. He was a Principle at GSHS for 7 years and Owensville for 5 years and retired in 1997. Sherrell was a active 4-H Sponsor, he was a trustee for the Lorraina Reed Scholarship, he was a charter member of the Fort Branch Optimist Club where he was district govenor, and also active in the Optimist Punt Pass and Kick program, he was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the National Cattlemens Association, the Indiana Beef Cattlemens Association, Chairman of the Indiana Regional Government Association, a Lay Leader at the Fort Branch First United Methodist Church where he was a member. He was a member of the IU basketball team from 1953 to 1954 and the IU Baseball Team, a member of the Murray State University Basketball and Baseball teams, a member of the IU I Mens Club and the Murray State University M Mens Club, he received a BS degree in Education from Murray State University, an MS degree in Education from IU, and Education Specialist School House Administration from IU. He was appointed by Govenor Evan Bayh to the Educational Excellence Commitee, President for 2 or 3 years of the PAC Coaches and Principles Association, The Big 8 Coaches and Principles Association, a member of the IHSAA. The Hoosier Heritage Walbash River Commission, In 1951 he was a member of the Junior American Legion Baseball Team, He did the summer Athletic Program for the 4th,5th and 6th grades, a member of the Indiana School of Education, He sponsored tickets for the Hadi Shrine Circus, a member of the US Army where he was a first LT. where he did 3 tours of active duty, he also was in the ROTC at Murray State University. He was a Gibson County Commissioner for 8 years. Sherrell is survived by his wife Jane (Huddleson) Marginet of Fort Branch, a daughter Sherry Michel of Fort Branch, Marty Marginet of Fort Branch, 2 grandchildren, Stacey nad Stuart Michel, 1 great grandchild, 2 steo great grandchildren, Kaia nad Sophie Gerts. Services for Sherrell will be on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fort Branch United First Methodist Church, Rev. Ron Willis will officiate, burial will be Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN. Visitation will be on Friday Feb. 11, 2011, from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, and again from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church on Saturday. The family request donations be made to the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Asspciation, or the Fort Branch United First Methodist Church.
