Dr. Olen Pumphrey, 90, of Fort Branch, passed away July 18, 2009 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN He was born July 29, 1918, to the late Zenas and Florence(Bayer) Pumphrey in Rural Fort Branch. He enjoyed the life of a farm boy along with his sister, Eliza Rose Kruse, who survives. He attended primary and secondary school in Fort Branch and was employed for seven years as a teller for The Farmers and Merchants National Bank, then attended Kansas State University to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. On May 22 1948, he married Inez Graper, and together they maintained a veterinary practice on Highway 41 North for 40 Years. Olen was a member of the Fort Branch First Presbyterian Church, Gideons International, Fort Branch Masonic Lodge #696, and the Evansville Scottish Rite. In addition to his wife and sister, he is survived by three nieces, Karen (Irwin) Etcovitch, of Fort Branch, Tomie Sue (Don) Maxam of Dunellen, FL, and Lynne (Gene) Lane of New Albany; two nephews,Joel and John Graper of Evansville; sister-in-law Mrs. Orel Graper of Evansville; three great nieces, Sarah(Craig) Carter of Fort Branch, Emily (Michael)Gardner of Boonville; Cpt. Laura (Pete) Van Howe of Ft Bragg, NC; one great nephew, Chris(Christy) Lane pf New Albany; and seven great great nieces and nephews, Zachary and Macy Carter, Ehan Gardener, Caleb, Ethan, and Jacob Lane and Joseph Van Howe. Dr Pumphrey enjoyed his almost 91 years very much and would wish to give each and every one of you who contributed a small or large amount to his joyous journey a great big thank you. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy 168 West in Fort Branch, with Dr James Cramer officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch. Visitation will be on Tuesday July 21, 2009 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again from 9:00 am until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
