IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Ruth
(Westerman) Garbers
September 10, 1933 – July 1, 2025
Patricia Ruth Garbers, 91, of Fort Branch, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 1, 2025, at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton.
Born on September 10, 1933, to the late Carl and Clara Ethel (Groves) Westerman in Covington, KY, Pat led a successful and fulfilling life. She graduated as the valedictorian from Fort Branch High School in 1951. During her high school years, she met Robert Garbers, who would become her lifelong partner. On September 6, 1953, they married and together raised three children while navigating their busy professional and personal lives.
Pat's unwavering support was instrumental in Robert's pursuit of becoming a Pharmacist at Purdue University, a journey that spanned 72 years. Following Robert's college education and military service, the couple returned to Fort Branch where they embarked on a new venture. They established Garbers Rexall Drugs, which became a thriving small business in downtown Fort Branch for 35 years. Pat played a pivotal role in expanding the business, introducing the first Hallmark Card and Gift Shop in the area, and later adding Russel Stover Candies.
While managing their flourishing business, Pat dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, known for her culinary skills. In 1967, Pat and Robert realized their dream of building a home on a picturesque five-acre property, complete with a stream, pond, garden, and barn.
Despite her busy schedule, Pat pursued various interests. She earned certification in Astrology, actively participated in Psi Iota Sorority, and contributed to St. Lucas United Church of Christ. Pat co-sponsored and initiated the first Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts chapter in Fort Branch, served as a court advocate and CASA volunteer, and received recognition as CASA of the year. She also provided support as a foster parent.
Pat cherished family vacations, hiking in nearly every state in the U.S., and organizing special outings with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Robert Garbers; three children, Robert Chris Garbers, Laura (Richard) Ritter, and Amy Denet Deal; eight grandchildren, Phillip Rowe, Rob (Kierston) Garbers, Amanda (Kristian) Garbers Beall, Dean (Amra) Ritter, Tricia (Christopher) Goodman, Will (Kayla) Ritter, Maggie (Molly) Ritter, and Lily Yeung; eleven great-grandchildren, Beau, Will Lloyd, Mitchell, Kylee, Luke, Noah, Sam, Owen, Weston, Mabel, and Ruthie; and sister, Barbara Weisenbeck.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
