Paul Mark Walther, aged 69, of Owensville, IN, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 28, 2025. Born in New Albany, IN to Paul James “PJ” and Vivian (Carver) Walther, he was fondly known as Mark among friends and family. Mark grew up attending St. John’s Lutheran Church and studied at its grade school and Lanesville High School before moving to Owensville, where he became part of Gibson Southern High School’s first graduating class in 1975. He earned his bachelor’s degree in science for teaching at Oakland City University.
On October 8, 1977, Mark married Roxanna Farmer, and together they welcomed their daughter, Sarah in 1980. His career spanned thirty years as a chemist at Red Spot Paint, retiring in 2021 due to illness. Post-retirement, Mark cherished reconnecting with old friends and coworkers and was active in The Gideons International. For many years, Mark was a member of Owensville General Baptist Church, driving the church bus and teaching men’s classes. More recently, he became a member and attended Enon General Baptist Church in Princeton. Talented in art, he enjoyed painting and woodworking, and his passion for music included collecting string instruments. Mark loved being outdoors, tending to vegetable gardens and zinnias, and birdwatching with many birdfeeders around. Alongside Rocky, he rescued two cats—Beakie and Piggie—and mourned Beakie’s loss just a week before his own passing after fifteen and a half years.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Paul James “PJ” Walther. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Roxanna; mother, Vivian of Owensville; his daughter Sarah Walther (Dan Tenbarge) of Evansville; live-in brothers-in-law John and Jeremy Farmer; siblings Neal (Debbie) Walther of Crossville, IL, Jennifer Kieffer of Ferdinand, and Jason (Alicia) Walther of Owensville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, January 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN, officiated by pastors David Depoister and Tammy Scheller. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until the service, followed by burial at Owensville Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mark’s honor to The Gideons International.
