Phyllis Ann (Gray) Schmitt, 91, of Fort Branch passed away at her home surrounded by her family on November 8, 2024. Phyllis was born on April 21, 1933 in Princeton to the late James and Lucille (Robards) Gray. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Daughter's of Isabella, and the former Holy Cross Altar Society.Phyllis is survived by 4 children, Steven (Laura) Schmitt of Haubstadt, Lisa (Stan) May of Fort Branch, Deven (Lucy) Schmitt of Long Valley, NJ, and Brenda (Jim) Helfrich of Haubstadt; 9 grandchildren, Andrea (Jeff) Church, Ashley Schmitt (Kent Schmidt), Corey May, Clint (Renee) May, Cynthia (Tyler) Owen, Rachel  Schmitt, Brian (Jerri) Helfrich, Cassie (Sam) Schmitz, and Barry (Monica) Helfrich; 14 great-grandchildren, Emma and Averie Church, Evan, Gordon, Ruby, and Carter Helfrich, Hannah, Matthew, and Allison Schmitz, Callie Helfrich, Ellis and Everett Owen, Lydia and Sully May; and a sister, Marjorie Elpers of Anderson, IN.   Phyllis is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Leroy Schmitt; and a sister, Bettye Garrett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Gary Kaiser and Father Tony Ernst as co-celebrants. There will be visitation at the church on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until mass time. Entombment will follow mass at the Holy Cross Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church and School and The Lords Pantry. Expressions of sympathy may be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
