Shirley Rae Brackett

Shirley Rae Brackett, age 91, of Fort Branch, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

Born September 17, 1934 in Evansville, Indiana, she was the daughter of late Roy Shutts and Valada Roebling.

In 1954 she married the late Walter Brackett and moved to Fort Branch to raise her four children.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her Stepfather Collins Roebling, her two sisters Wanda (Homer) Love and Doris (Peter) Wallace, a son-in-law Jay Whitehead, and cherished friends Ray Dilbeck and Loretta Coulson.

She is survived by her four children, Tony (Terry) Brackett of Fort Branch, Tonya (Keith) Schmitt of Evansville, Karen (Pat) Kramer of Fort Branch, and Karla Whitehead of Haubstadt.

Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren Dane (Natalie) Schmitt, Donny (Jennifer) Brackett, Nicole (Taylor) Catt, Brandon Whitehead, Terra (Vasilis) Therapos, Natalie (Aaron) Wilzbacher, Evan (Jennifer) Schmitt, Bryce (Dacia) Kramer, and Jaryd Whitehead, and seventeen great- grandchildren Henry, Adam, Colin, and Eliza Schmitt, Addi and McKinley Catt, Leona and Elliot Therapos, Hudson, Hadley, Harper, Houston, and Hagan Wilzbacher, Brielle and Keizer Kramer, and Hannah Lewis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was active in her church community and valued her time spent with friends. She loved to bowl, play cards and dominoes. She never met a stranger. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 11:00am until the service at 2:00pm at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, Indiana officiated by Tammy Scheller. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
