Travis Wayne Tarter, 78, of Fort Branch, Indiana, passed away at his home on August 29, 2026. He was born on April 28, 1948, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to the late Hoyt Herbert and Rosa Nell (Morris) Tarter. Travis grew up on the family farm, and farming remained close to his heart throughout his life. He also developed a lifelong love of coin collecting, beginning at age thirteen.

Travis was a member of Owensville United Methodist Church, where he attended with his wife, Elaine. He earned an associate degree in accounting and worked for Whayne Supply for 42 years, serving as a supervisor before his retirement.

In April 1970, Travis married Donna Baker, and together they had four children. Donna passed away in August 1999 after 29 years of marriage. On November 12, 2011, Travis married Ruth Elaine (Dodson) Williams, and they shared 15 happy years together.

Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Rosa Tarter; his first wife, Donna Tarter; his son, John Tarter; his brother, Raymond Tarter; and his brother-in-law, Harold Vincent.

Travis is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Tarter of Fort Branch, Indiana; his children, David (Lisa) Tarter of Fairdale, Kentucky, William (Kim) Tarter of Bloomington, Indiana, and Susan (Ethan) Thompson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and his stepchildren, Deborah (John) Hubbard of Mt. Olympus, Indiana, Douglas (Gina) Bury of Delavan, Illinois, Todd (Sandra) Bury of Owensville, Indiana, and Traci (Jon) Miller of Terre Haute, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Loretta Vincent of Irvington, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Jackie Tarter of Danville, Ky; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at noon at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, Indiana. A bereavement dinner will follow the service at Owensville United Methodist Church. A private burial will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Union Chapel Cemetery in Milltown, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Owensville United Methodist Church, 103 S. 3rd Street, Owensville, IN 47665. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
