Victor D. Sokeland, 78, of Fort Branch, passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 9, 2026. He was born December 9, 1947, in Evansville.
Victor entered the military in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969 with a Purple Heart while serving with a Special Forces Tracker K-9 unit.
Victor had a character where he never knew a stranger. He was kind-hearted to anyone he met, a loyal friend to all, and compassionate to any and all he came across. Above all, he was a family man.
Victor is survived by his loving children: Jody Wilson of Fort Branch, Mike (Erika) Sokeland of St. Louis, MO, Misty (Joe) Kemper of St. Louis, MO, and Sarah Sokeland of St. Louis, MO.
He is also survived by his siblings: Mary Jane of Evansville, Marie of Jasper, Anna, and Rita; his grandchildren: Jordan Wilson, Jessica Hart, Kaleb, Karlie, Brody, Blake, Faye Kemper, Katelynn, Ari Sokeland, Addison Sokeland, Hayden, and Hailey Miller; as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Gola and Nettie Sokeland, and his siblings, Frank, Patrick, and Donnie.
In honor of his service and valor in the United States Army, Victor will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life.
