Obituary

Wanda Louise (Ford) Schmits, 85, of Fort Branch passed away at Deaconess Gibson Hospital in Princeton on November, 1 2024.

Wanda was born on June 26, 1939 in Mt Olympus to the late Earl and Catherine (Harne) Ford.

Wanda is survived by her 3 children, Jacqueline "Jacie" (Mark) Tomes of Owensville, Charlena (Bruce Buschkoetter) Gehl of Ferdinand, and Anthony Schmits of Fort Branch; 5 grandchildren, Joan (Kenny) Williams, Jennifer (Jordan) Sidebottom, Michael Gehl, Craig (Julie) Schmits, and Ethan Schmits; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Wanda) Ford of Newburgh; sister-in-law Carole Schmits of Lynnville; and brother-in-law, Robert (Sharon) Schmits of Francisco.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Schmits; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Schmits.

Wanda married the love of her life Charles Schmits on July 18, 1959. Wanda was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Olympus High School where she made some close, life-long friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, and having monthly meetings with her former high school classmates. She also loved playing cards with her friends. Wanda worked in the cafeteria at Gibson Southern High School for 19 years.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and again from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Funeral Services will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment services will follow at the Holy Cross Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
