William Grant Byrns, 92, of Owensville, IN, passed away on March 24, 2025, at Meadowbrook Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Grayville, IL. He was born on November 18, 1932, in Patoka, IN, to the late John Christian Byrns and Mary Detzel (Slunder) Byrns.

Bill graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1952. He married Virginia Mae Farmer on November 19, 1953, and together they had eight children. He was a member of the National Guard before being activated into the United States Army to defend our country in Korea, where he served as a Marksman certified in .50 caliber weaponry in the 130th Infantry.

Bill worked as a derrick hand, pumper, and driller in the oil fields of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. He also owned and operated Bill Byrns Welding and Derrick Repair. He was a 33rd-degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, and former Noble Grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling in several leagues, attending lodge meetings, playing the mandolin with his brothers, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time with his children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Byrns; siblings, Dave Byrns, John Byrns, Ellen Phillips, and Patricia Sue Klopner; grandsons, Stephen William Byrns and Nicholas Aaron Byrns; and daughter-in-law, Jeanette "Net" Byrns.

He is survived by his children, Steve Byrns, Rebecca Morris, Thomas Byrns, Debra Walther (Neal), Albert Byrns (Kelly), and Lisa Staton (Charles); siblings, Pam DeHart (Kenny), and Bonnie Whittler (Marvin); 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be private, with military graveside honors conducted by the Veterans of Gibson County at Maumee Cemetery in Owensville, IN.
