Alva James Rostron, Jr., 87, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away at his home on February 4, 2022. He was born to the late Alva James Sr. and Elnora (Frohbeiter) Rostron on June 29, 1934, in Warrenton, IN.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Branch, IN. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Alice Ferry on July 23, 1955. He retired from whirlpool in April 1994. He enjoyed and was a huge fan of IU Men’s Basketball along with UCONN and TENN Women’s Basketball. He was very interested in history and the current political climate. His leisure time was filled with sitting on the front porch and deck with Elizabeth just people watching. He and Elizabeth passed 66 years together enjoying multiple adventures, travels, and cruises. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his pride and joy especially with family dinners and holiday cookouts.
Alva is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Rostron; brothers, Jesse (Ada) Rostron, Harold (Jeannie) Rostron, and Rueben Rostron; sisters, Flora (Walter) Sloan, Ruth Johnson, Florence (Floyd) Keith, and Ruby Moore.
He is survived by 7 children, Juanita Haworth of Owensville, IN, Bruce (Marilee) Rostron of Haubstadt, IN, Elizabeth (John) Montgomery of Spurgeon, IN, Robert (Lisa) Rostron of Spurgeon, IN, Peggy (Michael) Dougan of Princeton, IN, Reba (Randy) Richardson of Owensville, IN, and Janet (Kenneth) Buehner of Fort Branch, IN; 18 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home with Reverend John Baylor officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until service time with burial being at Barnett Chapel Cemetery in Elberfeld,IN.
