Daniel Eugene Smitha, 75, of Johnson, IN, passed away at the home he loved after a long battle with COPD. He was a loving husband, father, papaw, and uncle, and a retired IBEW Local 16 union electrician.
Dan enjoyed his many family trips to Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and was very handy at automotive and home repairs, and was always quick to help out his kids and grandkids with emergencies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville & Mayme Smitha; a daughter, Rhonda Schutz; in-laws, Rev. Oscar & Marie Pullum; brothers-in-law, Rev. Jimmy, Donnie, and Ronnie Pullum; sisters, Evelyn, Carolyn, Kay & Linda.
He is survived by his devoted wife and great love of his life, Freida (Pullum) Smitha; sons, Danny Smitha and Kaleb Wolf of Johnson; daughters, Karla Hatfield (Dennis), Stacy Rumsey (Shawn), Katelyn Wright (Wade), all of Evansville, Kate Wolf of Henderson, KY, and stepchildren, Julie Ahlbrand (Rick) and Jerry Wolf (Denise) of Evansville; grandchildren, Terra Delano (Andy, Alex Hatfield (Kayla), Derek Smitha (Jennifer), Jordan & Haley Schutz, Spencer, Riley, & Logan Rumsey, and Kylin Runyon; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Fox, Embry, Kegan, Owen, Elliot, Lucas, Carlee & Kyson; sisters-in-law, Carlotta, Sharon, & Paula Pullum, brother-in-law, Brian David Pullum (Sarah); many special nieces and nephews; a favorite aunt, Betty Todd; sisters, Edna, Pat, Sandy & Sharon; and a brother, Charles.
The family would like to thank the staffs of River Oaks Health Campus and Heritage Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion in Dan’s final months of life. The family asks that all food and flowers be delivered directly to the family’s house and not to the funeral home.
