Effie D. Dilbeck, 92, formerly of Fort Branch, IN, passed away The Terrace at Solarbron in Evansville,IN, on August 2, 2023. She was born to the late Clark and Spinner (Dawson)
Orange on October 6, 1930, in Thaxton, VA.
Effie was a member of the Fort Branch United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary post #194, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary post #2714. She also belonged to several quilting clubs and donated several quilts to Riley Children’s Hospital. Besides quilting, she loved gardening, canning, cooking (her “awesome waffles” will be greatly missed), dancing, family get togethers, and spending time with her great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, William “Abe” Dilbeck; children, Cathy Marvel and Doug Dilbeck; and a sister, Ruby Carter.
She is survived by her son, William Abe Dilbeck, III “Bill” of Evansville, IN; sister, Margaret Overstreet of Bedford, Virginia; grandchildren, Jason (Joann) Dilbeck, Gayle (Josh) Sherretz, and Laura (Adam) Weinzapfel; great grandchildren, Reagan, Evie, Charleigh, and Aubrey Sherretz, and Sophie, Sydnie and Brody Weinzapfel; and a nephew, Bill Carter of Avon, IN.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Terrace at Solarbron and Heritage Hospice for their excellent care of Effie in the last years of her life.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch with Pastor Bob Douglas officiating. Visititation will be on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until service time. The burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch. Donations in her honor can be made to the American Legion, Riley Children’s Hospital, or the VFW. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
