George L. Houchins, 73, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Robert and Betty (Lewis) Houchins on November 15, 1946 in Princeton, IN.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he did a tour in Vietnam. He was an underground coal miner in Keensburg, IL for over 30 years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Fort Branch VFW Post #2714, and Haubstadt American Legion Post #194. George loved antiques, fleamarkets, and working on cars.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Max Houchins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy (Lemmons) Houchins; his son, Brad Houchins of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Rachel (Jacob) Mahoney and Kaliegh Houchins; and nieces and nephews, Rob (Andrea) Houchins of Fort Branch, IN, Steve (Amy) Houchins of Fort Branch, IN, and Kathy (Larry) Flora of Patoka, IN.
Services will be on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch with Father Luke Hassler as the celebrant. Visitation will be on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Stodghill Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Military Honors will be performed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Princeton, IN prior to burial by VFW Post 2714, American Legion Post 194, and the Retired Military of Gibson County. Donations can be made to Heritage Hospice.
