Herbert J. Bethe, Jr.

Herbert J. Bethe, Jr., 83, formerly of Haubstadt, IN, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN, on January 24, 2024. He was born to the late Herbert J. Sr. and Margaret M. (Singer) Bethe on December 6, 1940, in Princeton, IN.

Herb graduated from Haubstadt High School and received his degree from Lockyear’s Business College in Evansville, IN. A lifelong auto parts salesman, he worked for various auto parts dealers over the years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Knights of St. John all of Haubstadt. In his free time, he enjoyed watching stock car racing, going trap shooting and spot shooting, and especially fishing.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant sister, Rita Patrice Bethe; sister, Rose Marie Fuhs; brother, Larry Bethe; nephew, Matthew Fuhs; and brother-in-law, Stan Schmidt.

He is survived by his sisters, Barb (Don) Phillips of Haubstadt, IN, Mary (John) Kessler of Haubstadt, IN, and Jane Schmidt of Lynnville, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt with Father Andrew Thomas as celebrant. A Knights of Columbus service, recitation of the rosary, and Knights of St. John service will be on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 2:15 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch with visitation to follow from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be visitation from 9:00 a.m. until mass time at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Committal service will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Donations in his honor can be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
