Irma Elizabeth Bittner, 90, of Haubstadt, Indiana, passed away at Heritage Center in Evansville, Indiana, on August 19, 2023. She was born to the late Andrew and Otillia (Baehl) Maurer on May 8, 1933, in Poseyville, Indiana.
Irma was a faithful and devout Catholic woman being a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt. She was the glue that kept the family together. She married the love of her life, Germaine Bittner, and they had 6 beautiful children together. Being a homemaker, she loved to garden, cook for the family, and canned vegetables. It has been said there wasn’t a mean bone in her body, and she would never complain.
Besides her parents, Irma is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Germaine H. Bittner who passed away in November of 1999; her children, Susan (Daniel) Nurrenbern and Linda Elpers; and her sisters, Alleen Memmer and Mary Cecilia Miller.
Surviving her are her children, Michael (Wilma) Bittner of Haubstadt, IN, Steve (Lisa) Bittner of Fort Branch, IN, Charlie (Terri) Bittner of Chandler, IN, and Tom Bittner of Evansville, IN; son-in-law, Leonard Elpers of Evansville, IN; 14 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, with Father Andrew Thomas as celebrant. Rosary recitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to mass. The burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery following mass. Donations in her honor can be made to Sts.
