Jerald Russel Allen, 83, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was born to the late George F. and Agnes M. (Bruce) Allen on May 23, 1939, in Princeton, IN.
Jerald was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Snake Run,IN. He was an operator and mechanic for heavy equipment at the Old Ben Coal Mine #1 for many years. He was a member of the Dusty Trails Saddle Club in Boonville, IN, the United Mine worker’s Association, American Legion Post #462 in Somerville, IN, Vice President of the Coal Miner’s Union Local #5179, and he and his wife Mary were recipients of the Brute Award at St. Bernard Catholic Church. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Army where he served as a combat engineer in the 92nd Engineer Battalion from 1958- 1962. He married the love of his life, Mary Goebel, and had 4 beautiful children.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Allen; a sister, Vivian Hinman; and a brother, Charles Allen.
Jerald is survived by his children, Mark (Anna) Allen of Fort Branch, IN, Russell (Carla) Allen of Oakland City, IN, Jody (Jo) Allen of Francisco, IN, and Amy (Justin) Hardy of Paoli, IN; sister, Connie Hornbach of North Carolina; grandchildren, Randy Allen, Tony (Kristin) Allen, Heather (Ed) Schenk, Theron (Samantha) Allen, and Ryann Allen; and great grandchildren, Henry Schenk and Bailey Allen.
A Mass of Catholic Burial will be on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Snake Run, IN, with Father Chris Forler as celebrant. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home with a rosary service to be performed at 3:30 p.m. Military Honors will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County at St. Bernard Cemetery following mass. Donations in his honor can be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
