Lana Sue Schmitt, 79, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on October 13, 2023, at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville, IN. She was born to the late Harold and Lois (Edmondson) Douglas on February 19, 1944, in Owensville, IN.
Lana was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt. She played the organ at church for over 40 years. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1962, and married the love of her life, Robert Schmitt on September 1, 1962. Bob and Lana had 4 beautiful children together. In her younger years she enjoyed cross-stitching and traveling with her husband on Seed Chem trips. She loved to paint ceramics and give them to her family for weddings and Christmas.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving and caring husband of 57 years, Robert Eugene Schmitt.
Lana is survived by her children, Dawn (Danny) Blankenberger of Haubstadt, IN, Lori (Greg) Halbig of Haubstadt, IN, Leigh Ann Schmitt of Haubstadt, IN, and Dana Schmitt of Fort Branch, IN; brother, Stanley (Marcia) Douglas of Owensville, IN; grandchildren, Jeremy (Brynn) Blankenberger, Jonathan (Paige) Blankenberger, Benjamin (Katie) Halbig, Andy (Kelsey) Halbig, and Amanda (Casey) Conrey; great grandchildren, Noah Bodenstein, Penelope and Boston Blankenberger, Harper and Emersyn Blankenberger, Rhett and Wyatt Halbig, Sadie and Lane Halbig with baby boy Halbig due in March, and Shane, Deanna, and Cameron Conrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, with Father Andrew Thomas as celebrant. Rosary services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to public visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until mass. The burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery following mass. Donations in her honor can be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and St. James Catholic School.
