Larry Joe Pennington, 82, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. He was born to the late Charles and Matilda (Geis) Pennington on July 20, 1940, in Buckskin, IN.
Larry graduated from Elberfeld High School in 1958 and joined the United States Army Reserves. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Adler, on November 20, 1964, and they had 3 beautiful children. He worked as a carpenter for many years and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 90. He retired from South Gibson School Corporation as a custodian where he worked for over 10 years. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Louisville Cardinal basketball, and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of St. John, St. Vincent de Paul, former member of the Chamber of Commerce, Former President of the Haubstadt Little League, and volunteered at the Lord’s Pantry in Fort Branch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie Pennington of Haubstadt, IN; 3 sons, Kevin (Kelly) Pennington of Evansville, IN, Wayne Pennington of Haubstadt, IN, and Todd (Kendra) Pennington of Haubstadt, IN; and 2 grandchildren, Olivia and Hayden Pennington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt with Father Andrew Thomas as celebrant. Visitation will be on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, and again at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until mass time. Rosary services will be led by the Knights of St. John on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home. Military Honors services will be performed by the veterans of Gibson County at the grave side following mass. Donations in his honor can be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and to St. Vincent de Paul. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
