Obituary

Leonard Frederick Kempf, 90, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on May 16, 2023. He was born to the late Leo and Magdelena (Ruegg) Kempf on February 15, 1933, in Evansville, IN.

Leonard was a member of the Washington Avenue Church of Christ in Evansville, IN. He served his country in the United States Navy at the end of the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Anna Freudenberg, on May 22, 1959, and began their beautiful family. He worked at Whirlpool in Evansville for 33 years. After retirement, he enjoyed mowing yards until he turned 85. Leonard enjoyed hunting quail, deer, and rabbits, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was strong in his faith and taught Sunday School and bible study groups.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Kempf, John Kempf, Kenneth Kempf, Mathilda Inkenbrandt, Tom Kempf, and Jim Kempf.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anna Kempf of Fort Branch, IN; children, Deborah (Donald) Schloot of Sullivan, IN, Rodney (Chris) Lang of Evansville, IN, Neil (Terrie) Kempf of Evansville, IN, Tony Kempf of Mackey, IN, and Julie (Bill) Niederhaus of Haubstadt, IN; brothers, Leo Kempf of Evansville, IN and Steve Kempf of Mt. Vernon, IN; grandchildren, Josh Lang, Chad Montgomery, Joey Lang, Seth Kempf, Meagan Kempf, Kyle Kempf, Will Niederhaus, Nate Niederhaus, and Justin Niederhaus; and great grandchildren, Raiden, Addison, and Jett Kempf.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home with a military walk through at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Providence Cemetery in Francisco, IN with Preacher David Rogers officiating. Military Honors services will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County at the cemetery. A Memorial service for family and friends will be held on May 22, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Avenue Church of Christ in Evansville. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care they displayed to their husband and father.
