Mary Ziliak Obituary

Mary Ellen Ziliak, 87, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at North River Health Campus. She was born in Haubstadt, on December 28, 1931 to the late Frank and Marie (Woehler) Hirsch.

    She was a homemaker and mother to eleven children.  She was a member of Saint James Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Altar Society, Saint Vincent De Paul, Daughters of Isabella, the Oblates of Saint Benedict, and the Brute Society.

    She enjoyed her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and writing about them in her journal. Mary Ellen also loved tending to her flower garden, going to Mass daily and praying the rosary.

    Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ziliak, on May 13, 1989, her son, Danny P. Ziliak on Mar. 5, 2017, and a granddaughter, Jessica Rose Ziliak; also preceding her in death, were her brothers, Bernuce Hirsch, August Hirsch, and Roy Hirsch, and sisters Jeannette Zimmerman and Kathleen Alexander.

    She is survived by 10 children and their spouses, Roger (Mary Ellen) Ziliak of Evansville, Roberta “Bobbie” (Keevin) Biggs of Haubstadt, Rick (Jeri) Ziliak of Cynthiana, Joe (Karen) Ziliak, Mark (Rita) Ziliak, all of Haubstadt, Nancy (Terry) Will Poseyville, Stan (Kim) Ziliak of Haubstadt, Wayne (Kellie) Ziliak of Boonville, Jeff (Laura) Ziliak of Haubstadt, Jon (Laurie) Ziliak of Haubstadt, and a daughter in-law, Bobbi Ziliak of Haubstadt, 41 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is a sister Eileen Young of Evansville and  brothers James Hirsch of Haubstadt and Frank Hirsch of Eckerty, IN

    A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Kenneth Betz, and Father Joseph Ziliak officiating.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN, and again from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday.  A Rosary will be recited and prayers from the Daughters of Isabella and the Oblates of St. Benedict on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to visitation, all are welcome. The family request that donations be made to the Father Jerry Ziliak Endowment Fund for the education of seminarians. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ellen requested Mass intentions.
