Melvin R. Viner Jr.

March 23, 1967 ~ April 5, 2023 (age 56) 56 Years Old

Obituary

Mel Viner, Jr., a beloved member of the Poseyville, IN community, passed away on April 5, 2023, at the age of 56. He was born on March 23, 1967, in Munich, Germany while his father was serving in the army. Mel lived a full and happy life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mel worked as a carpenter for Fulton Interiors for over 25 years and was a member of the Carpenter's Union 224. He completed a 4-year carpenter apprenticeship which earned him an associate degree in carpentry. His love for his job was evident in the quality of his work and his dedication to his craft as well as the mentorship he showed to many.

In addition to his work, Mel had many passions in life, including hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling, and motorcycle racing. He loved visiting the Bayou River Camp and North Carolina, and he cherished every moment he spent with his wife, Penny, who sadly preceded him in death after 35 years of marriage. Mel was also a 1985 graduate of Bosse High School and a Catholic, having been baptized into the faith in 2002.

Mel was a loving and protective family man, who adored his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his parents, Mel Viner, Sr. and Patricia Viner; his siblings, Brandon (Paula) Viner and Heather (Chris) Brown; his daughters, Amber (Jamie) Dumanski and Brandi (DJ Wright) Barrett; his four grandchildren, Mason and Connor Dumanski and Emilynn and Meleah Wright; and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Mel's loyal dog Benny was also a constant companion and source of his joy.

Mel was a kind and generous person, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved hard and will be remembered for his caring and protective spirit as well as his playful bantering and jokes.
