Randall Schmits, 69, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at his home on January 4, 2021. He was born to the late Virgil and Cleo (Porter) Schmits on May 14, 1951 in Fort Branch.
Randy was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Snake Run. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years and retired from Country Mark. He married the love of his life, Janet Swader, in August of 1970. His hobbies include collecting and restoring tractors and tractor pulling. He also enjoyed farming for 40 years with his friend Dave McKinney.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Hardenbrook and a brother Donald Schmits.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janet Schmits of Fort Branch, IN; son, Kent (Cori) Schmits of Princeton, IN; sisters, Phyllis (Larry) Hanold of Mt. Sterling, IL, Patty (Jerry) Woehler of Haubstadt, IN, Debbie (John) Dixie of Shelbyville, KY, Sherry (Everett) Owens of Indianapolis, IN, and Teresa (James) Griffin of Mt. Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Libby and Lani Schmits; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home with Jerry Woehler officiating and will be livestreamed at stodghillfuneralhome.com. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery following the service. Donations in his honor can be made to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance at the visitation and funeral service will be limited. Social distancing and masks will be required.
