Robert Emge Obituary

Robert G. Emge, 96, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away peacefully at River Pointe Health Campus on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. He was born to the late Raymond and Josephine (Renner) Emge on April 18, 1924 in Evansville, IN.

Bob was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Veterans Service Officer for Gibson County for 10 years, Former Commander of VFW post #2714, Knights of Columbus Council 2215, and American Legion post #194. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator/gunner on a B-24 in the South Pacific. He flew 33 combat missions and was the last living member of his squadron. He was on the 3rd Honor Flight out of Evansville in 2015. He worked at Prudential as an insurance agent for 28 years.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Rita (Riffert) Emge; his youngest daughter, Patricia Sermersheim; a granddaughter, Lori Sermersheim; and 3 sisters, LaVon Wilzbacher, Lois Wilderman, and Mary Joseph.

Bob is survived by his children, Stan (Becky) Emge of Haubstadt, IN, Cindy (Bob) Shoulders of Evansville, IN, and Terrie (Alan) Chamberlain of Darmstadt, IN; son-in-law, Kent Sermersheim of Riverview, FL; 6 grandchildren, Luke (Nichole) Chamberlain, Zach Chamberlain, Alex (Brittney) Shoulders, Chase (Christine) Emge, Ali (Chris) Nelson, and Alicia (Brian) Padgett; 10 great grandchildren, and 17 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN with Father Christopher Droste as celebrant. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home and again on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary will be on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 1:30 p.m with Jerry Woehler. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleum with a Military Honors service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, VFW post #2714, and the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana. Masks and social distancing are encouraged at all services.
