Robert Kent Schmidt

Robert Kent Schmidt, 68, of Owensville, IN, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 15, 2022. He was born to the late Robert G. and Regina (Jarman) Schmidt on November 24, 1954, in Evansville, IN.

Bob, lovingly referred to as “Sponge” by those who knew him best, graduated from Owensville High School in 1973. He grew up working on his family’s farm and continued farming throughout his life. He worked at Duke Energy as a plant production team member for 30 years until he retired. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1393 and the Cynthiana Masonic Lodge #710. He loved all motor sports. He raced flat track and drag cars and was an avid race fan. Bob had a smile that could light up a room and he never knew a stranger. People were drawn to his magnetic personality.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert G. and Regina Schmidt; in-laws, Willard R. Lewis and Helen Lewis; sister, Margie Peugh; and brothers-in-law, Aaron Riggs, Don Peugh, and Terry Tichenor.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sherry Schmidt of Owensville, IN; sons, Kent (Ashley) Schmidt and Brett (Breeanna) Schmidt both of Owensville, IN; sisters, Barb Riggs of Evansville, IN, Wanda Tichenor of Owensville, IN, and Sue (Phil) McKinnon of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Brinley and Bodie Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch,IN, with Pastor Donnie Truelock officiating. Masonic services will be performed by the Cynthiana Masonic Lodge #710. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery in Owensville, IN at a later date.
