Shirley Overton, 95, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at Brickyard Healthcare – Woodlands Care Center in Newburgh, IN, on September 1, 2023. She was born to the late Frank Stone and Willena (Delong) Dayvolt on March 12, 1928, in Fort Branch, IN.
Shirley was a member of the former Fort Branch General Baptist Church. She graduated from Fort Branch High School in 1946 and married the love of her life, Kenneth Overton, on May 10, 1947. Shirley taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for 30 years. She was a woman of tremendous faith and enjoyed reading her bible and listening to Christian music. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and watching jeopardy.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Kenneth Overton; and siblings, Jerry Stone, Betty Joyce (Scott) Miles, and Evelyn (Walter) Phillips.
She is survived by her daughter, Kenya (Jim) Wade of Newburgh, IN; siblings, John Dayvolt of Evansville, IN and Sherri Angell of Florida; sister-in-law, Margie Stone of Florida; grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Wade of Wisconsin and Aaron (Haley) Wade of Evansville, IN; great grandchildren, Embree, Avery, and Grayson Wade; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN, with Pastor Steve Akins officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. The burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN, following services.
