Belle Schaefer, 91, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at North River Health Campus in Evansville, IN. She was born on January 13, 1929 in Evansville to the late Clemens and Priscilla (Martin) Kast.
Belle grew up in Washington, D.C., moving to Tell City, IN when she was in high school. She started her career at GE in Tell City. After raising six children, she worked at Fort Branch Community School and Holy Cross School for many years. She then transitioned to secretary at Holy Cross Church until she retired at 80 years old. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Belle enjoyed sewing, cooking, card club, traveling, and family vacations.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clarence Schaefer, and a brother, Jervis Kast.
She is survived by six children: Larry Schaefer of Fort Branch, IN; Laura (Brian) Hatfield of Evansville, IN; Luann (Bill) Sievern of Evansville, IN; Lisbeth Miller of West Chester, OH; Lynette (Bill) Becker of Clarksville, TN: and Lyle Schaefer of Fishers, IN. She is survived by eleven grandchildren: Bennett (Alaina), Harrison, and Madison Hatfield, Will, Alec, and Claire Sievern, Anne, Sophie, and Caroline Miller, and Jackson and Thomas Becker; and two brothers, Allen Kast of Tell City, IN and Daryl Kast of Gentryville, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN with Father Christopher Droste and Father Luke Hassler as Co-Celebrants.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN and again from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Friday. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Branch. A Rosary will be recited Thursday at the funeral home at 3:30 PM.
